Is there a curve on the NYS Geometry Regents? ›

The Regents curve, infamously known as the Regents grading curve, functions as a shifting grade scale. So what does this mean for you? Regardless of your raw scores on the Geometry exam, the state educators run your scores against this curve to determine your final score from a scale of 0-100.

What is a good Geometry Regents score? A good Geometry Regents score is anything that is a 3 or higher. This is because receiving a 3, 4, or 5 would mean you've passed the test and can use that Regents math exam score towards your graduation requirements.

Is the Geometry Regents exam hard? The Geometry Regents test is not considered difficult to pass, although some of the concepts covered in the exam might be difficult, depending on the student. The difficulty level also depends on the score you are attempting to achieve and your reasons for taking the exam.

The Regents exams are scored on a scale of 0–100, with 65 considered a passing grade. These scores are “curved” based on the results of all students taking the exam in a particular year, meaning the score does not directly reflect a percentage of questions answered correctly.

Scoring the Regents

The scores reported for regents exams are not a sum or percentage of questions answered correctly. Instead, raw scores on the tests are converted on a curve to the officially reported scale scores.

While Regents exam scores aren't a crucial factor for college admissions, they can still play a role in demonstrating your academic abilities, particularly for in-state colleges within New York.

According to the New York City Department of Education (DOE), “Students graduating with at least a score of 75 on English Regents and 80 on Math Regents” are deemed ready to pursue college and career paths.

In order to receive an advanced Regents diploma, you'll need to score a passing mark for all three Regents math exams. If you'd like to get a designation with your diploma (i.e. with honors), you must receive a scale score of 90 or higher on all required Regents exams.

Which is the hardest test? The one people fail most often is Global History because, I think, it's just a lot to memorize. In terms of those higher tests which college-bound kids take, they get harder and harder.
