Kos Town Harbour byKees Wielemaker
What's Kos Town like
Kos Town is the capital and largest town on Kos. It’s in the north east corner of the island about 22km, which is about 30 minutes drive, from the airport.
If you’re going to Kos island then a visit to Kos town should definitely be on your to do list. Even if you just want to pick a table in Eleftherias Square or down by the harbour front and watch the world go by you wont be disappointed and your choice of restaurants and bars is virtually endless.
There’s no shortage of hotels for all price ranges, the only thing to remember is that there aren’t many hotels in the centre of town that have large swimming pools so look slightly further out if that’s a must. Many of the hotels in the town do have roof top or modest pools though.
If you'd like to stay in the area then have a look at the Kos Town page of booking.com here. Alternatively find a great package holiday through Tui here.
Kos Town nightlife
The night life and entertainment in Kos Town is diverse and varied with beach parties, night clubs, karaoke, Greek music and dancing, there really is something for everyone.
If you’re someone that likes to spend the evening people watching then there’s some great restaurant options around the harbour that are perfect for this, as is Eleftherias square and the path down the side of the Agora.
If you want to have a more lively night then you can head for one of the capitals many cocktail bars or clubs. These are generally around the harbour or just north of it, they stay open late, offer cheap “happy hour” drinks and have a great atmosphere so what’s not to like.
What to do around Kos Town
Kos Town is home to some of the best historical and cultural sites on the island including Neratzia castle, the Hippocrates tree, the Ancient Agora, Casa Romana and the Roman Odeon. There’s also the Archaeological museum that history buffs will enjoy a wander round.
But historical sites aren’t all that Kos Town and the surrounding areas have to offer. At the harbour you’ll find a number of boat trips available that take you round the island stopping at various sites along the way or even ones that take you over to Turkey for a day trip.
If you’re a thrill seeker then head for the scuba dive centre at the harbour or out to the windsurfing school on the road out towards Psalidi for a more active day in the Greek sunshine.
